Repington, injured in his duty to country returns to settle the affairs of his late brother’s estate and discovers his brother’s death wasn’t as cut and dry as everyone believed.
Riley writes complicated characters and themes. Although this is a Regency romance she weaves seamlessly themes of racism, colorism, classism and the plight of women during this time.
I was equal parts enraged and infuriated as I read how so many women were treated. Not as people, but as property or means to an end. Repington becomes a true hero when he casts aside societal expectations and follows truth and his heart.
This is a slow heat regency era romance with a strong female lead and a vulnerable hero. I cannot wait to read more in this series!
