A Duke, the Lady, and a Baby

A Duke, The Lady, and A Baby: Rogues and Remarkable Women Book One by Vanessa Riley published June 30, 2020 by Zebra Books

Regency romances don’t have to be white.

Patience and Duke Repington are a force to be reckoned. West Indian heiress Patience loses everything when her husband dies. Her home, her son, her sanity. With the help of a group of widows and the dashing Duke of Repington, Patience fights for her rightful place in society and back in her home, but will she lose her heart in the process.

Repington, injured in his duty to country returns to settle the affairs of his late brother’s estate and discovers his brother’s death wasn’t as cut and dry as everyone believed.

Riley writes complicated characters and themes. Although this is a Regency romance she weaves seamlessly themes of racism, colorism, classism and the plight of women during this time.

I was equal parts enraged and infuriated as I read how so many women were treated. Not as people, but as property or means to an end. Repington becomes a true hero when he casts aside societal expectations and follows truth and his heart.

This is a slow heat regency era romance with a strong female lead and a vulnerable hero. I cannot wait to read more in this series!

I loved this book. Another favorite HEA of mine so far this year. If you enjoy this book also try To Have and to Hoax by Martha Waters, Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore and a Royal Kiss and Tell by Julia London.

I received an e-book galley from Netgalley for a fair review of this title. I was not paid for my review and all opinions are my own. I am also an Amazon Affiliate which means if you click on any of the below links and make a purchase I receive a portion of the sale.
